Cross culture on the road

Scientists described 9 psycho-types of Russian drivers. People who are addicted to psycho-typologies will immediately understand everything. A lot of things in this work are mixed up. Epileptoids and Schizoids (system of Ponomarenko) coexist there with Choleric and Sanguine, Provocateurs (smth nearly new) are also highlighted. In our case, we will look at the cross-cultural aspect.

In Europe, according to the results of the analysis, the number of psycho-types that differently perceive information is reduced to 3-4: the Scandinavian, Central European and southern type of drivers, as well as people from North Africa and the Middle East.

It also turned out that only one psycho type exist in Japan!

In Russia, scientists insist on 18 varieties, this is 9 multiplied by 2. And the drivers of minibuses are taken out of the framework. Their driving style requires additional research.

You ask why you need to multiply? It turns out that in Russia there is a big difference in behavior depending on the class of the car. Standards of behavior and interaction with information from drivers of middle-class cars and the second group of VIP are fundamentally different. For VIPs, they change for the worse.

In addition to the features of psycho-types, mental features and habits also play a role. In Russia, the driver does not look straight ahead, as a German or Frenchman does, but a little below the horizontal level: pits on the roads taught the Russian person to “look at the road” in the truest sense of the word. As a result, the Russian driver sharply decreases the angle of peripheral vision, road signs are hardly perceived or are not noticed in principle.

According to the researchers, the Russian driver does not perceive more than three lines of textual information, the Dutch read five. Europeans read placards, like a book — from left to right and from top to bottom, Russians are looking to the lower right corner, not having time to analyze the content of the inscription on the shield.

The peculiarity of the Russian road mentality is the presence of «leaders provocateurs» (they are in a separate psycho type). On each road there are people who move in a staggered manner, occupy the left lane, are not inferior to the car at high speed.

Still, there is an example of the formation of congestion based on cross-cultural differences. Russian drivers rarely listen to the navigator when it gives correct information about the attractiveness of the bypass route, and rarely decide to use it. The Japanese, without a doubt, believe in technology and follow its directive. And if, according to MADI scientists, a German and a Frenchman, traveling along an alternative route, immediately forget about their choice; the average Russian is inclined for quite a long time to continue to doubt the correctness of the decision.

Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) worked perfectly in Tokyo, Seoul, New York and London. Of course, they did not rid these multimillion cities finally from traffic jams, but they considerably facilitated the movement. In Russia, they are constantly trying to learn from experience, but as practice shows, this does not work. Scientists from MADI came to the conclusion that Russian drivers and their foreign colleagues perceive information on the road differently, so the usual tracing of Western or Asian experience is not effective.
